Beautiful straight teeth are enviable. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t born with straight teeth. Since teeth are moving all the time, they can become even more crooked and misaligned over time, causing issues related to chewing and eating. The good news is that clear aligners called Invisalign® can fix crooked teeth without embarrassing metal braces. Invisalign Q & A

How is Invisalign different from traditional braces?

The goal behind Invisalign and traditional braces are the same: fix crowding or spacing problems or bite issues. But that’s where the similarities end. Traditional braces use brackets connected by wires to move teeth. This often requires applying messy wax, limiting the foods you can eat, difficulty brushing your teeth, and the overall look of metal braces when you speak or smile.

Invisalign is a clear aligner treatment system, which uses no brackets or wires. During treatment you will switch out approximately 24 sets of clear, removable aligners that fit tightly over your gums. You can remove your aligner when you eat, drink, and clean your teeth. Most people won’t even know you are wearing them. The average treatment time is 12-18 months.*

What types of issues can Invisalign fix?

The team evaluates whether your particular dental issues can best be treated with Invisalign, which is commonly used to correct cases of:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Overcrowded, crooked teeth
  • An overbite
  • An underbite
  • An open bite
  • A crossbite

What is the Invisalign treatment process?

If after an initial consultation and examination the dental team recommends you as a good candidate for Invisalign, they’ll take impressions of your teeth so that he can develop a treatment plan. The treatment plan plots out how and when your teeth will be moved as well as how long the treatment will take.

The rest of the Invisalign process unfolds in three major steps.

1. Custom aligners are made

A laboratory makes your custom sets of clear aligners based on the information and impressions that the team provides. You’ll get about 24 sets of aligners for a 12-month treatment plan. Your treatment plan will come with specific instructions so you’ll know when to switch out to a new set. Typically this happens approximately every one to two weeks. For best results, Chusid Dental Group recommends wearing your aligners for 20-22 hours a day.

2.  Checkups

About every six weeks, you’ll come into the office for a checkup so that Chusid Dental Group can monitor your progress.

3. Completion/Maintenance

After 12 to 8 months, your treatment will be completed. * To make sure your teeth remain in place since teeth are prone to naturally move all the time, Chusid Dental Group may recommend using a retainer to prevent movement.
